ABOUT POSTERBOY SKILLS ACADEMY

Posterboy Skills Academy(81-5027153) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides mentoring and Basketball skills training for Elementary and High School youth in the High Desert area. Posterboy Skills Academy Will form relationships and partnerships with local and surrounding school districts, in order to keep the Posterboy Skills Academy program available to all youth.Plans have been set for weekly training  leading to the selection of our Elite teams. Posterboy Skills Academy is geared and motivated to help the youth earn scholarships to colleges and universities around the country. Although some view Basketball as merrily a sport, the Posterboy Skills Academy family cherishes its opportunities and ability to change an Athletes life.

Posterboy Skills Academy Travel Basketball Program is for those players who have progressed beyond the Recreational Leagues or other City Leagues.  Although travel basketball is one of the most competitive levels that players will compete in, Success is more than just about wins and losses. It’s about developing successful individuals that will grow to achieve greatness as teammates and individuals.

Please understand being apart of Posterboy Skills Academy Travel Team requires a high level of commitment to practice and tournament weekends. This is for those players who want to be challenged, and also have goals of playing at the high school varsity level, college, and beyond!

Successful teams plan, prepare, and expect to win. We feel that if we are to be a successful Program, we must be prepared to outwork other teams on both ends of the floor during games. Because of this philosophy, our practices must demand our full attention and effort. Non-productive, lazy practices build a poor work ethic and fundamentally unsound techniques. If poor performances are allowed in practices, it becomes the mode of operation in all things we do on and off the court. We must practice hard in order to perform well on the court during game time. All players must make an effort in practice to prepare to be the best basketball player they can be, on and off the court. Our Posterboy Skills Academy Travel teams are formed by tryouts that are controlled by our professional coaches. We will host our first full tryout in the first week of September, as well as other tryouts in the later months for other seasons.

Posterboy Skills Academy Travel Teams will consist of 8-10 players per team, per grade level. The travel season runs year round, but is broken up into 3 seasons with a month break in August.

Fall season(September-December), Winter season(January-March), Spring/Summer(April-July). Our expectation is if you choose to play, that you are committed to your team for that season, that will include games outside of the High Desert. Games will be on weekends including holiday weekends as well With exception to the summer season in the month of July. Tournament locations will be in Anaheim, Inland Empire, Los Angeles, San Diego, and Las Vegas.

As a program We do not expect a year-long commitment, but it is very important that you are committed to that season. We do understand that kids do play other sports, For example if your child plays Basketball and Baseball, we ask that you finish out your season commitment with basketball before moving to Baseball. All parents  and players are required to sign a commitment contract before being selected to a team. We expect players and families to have a commitment to the team for the duration of the season.

Note: Once we have selected teams in order to get onto a roster you will have to wait for someone to leave to take someone’s spot. Also there are no refunds and once you are on a roster you will be with that team for that entire season.

-Each team will have 3 practices per week

Following the start to his college career where he was on a rise on a victor valley college team before he tore his ACL. During his rehab he discovered his passion for skills training and coaching. COACH Los.HEIC

COACH CARLOS

Coach Carlos fell in love with the game of basketball from the age of 3, watching Lakers basketball. His path to coaching has been different. He has had experience in leadership for 23 years in the restaurant industry . He has done it all from managing restaurants to business consulting. As a business consultant he has helped start up a business from nothing to a successful operational restaurant. In his experience he adopted the mamba mentality, that has helped him through hardships and setbacks. He has a never quit attitude and  a relentless drive to win. He never expected basketball in his life again  until now, where his sons and daughter have found the same love for the game. By taking from Kobe Bryant the following mentality, "Dedication makes dreams come true. Once you know what failure feels like, determination chases success"; it has motivated his leadership and drive as a rookie coach. With this, he has found success leading teams to championship games.

FAQ

WHY SHOULD MY KID PLAY IN POSTERBOY SKILL ACADEMY’S CLUB BASKETBALL PROGRAM?

Posterboy Skills Academy Club Basketball team offers your child the opportunity to play against top talented kids is Southern California. This type of exposure is essential to the maturation, and improvement of your child’s growth. We travel and play in 1-2 tournaments per month. Also include will be days of practice per week, which will build chemistry with all fellow teammates, As well as compete against top talent that is unique to Posterboy Skills Academy. We also would like to ensure that those kids who can play at the club level have that opportunity, we have options available to help you if you may be having any financial difficulties!.

HOW DOES POSTERBOY SKILLS ACADEMY CLUB TEAM WORK?

Posterboy Skills Academy club basketball teams have 3 team practices with their head coach per week. Team Practices will include Skillwerk development and team practices(learning our offensive and defensive system) This system is designed to help your child improve as a person and basketball player. This system will also develop chemistry with teammates. With this schedule it will allow for the player time for other obligations they may have.

HOW LONG IS THE CLUB SEASON?

The club season runs from September-beginning of August but we break it up into 3 seasons: Fall, Winter, and the Spring/Summer. Each season last about 3-4 months. During each season each team will play in between 7-8 tournaments

HOW MANY COACHES PER TEAM

Each team will have one Head Coach.

DO YOU OFFER ANY FINANCIAL AID?

Posterboy Skills Academy works hard to help families manage expenses and get their players on the court. It is a goal of Posterboy Skills Academy that financial need not stand in the way of a player playing basketball at the level appropriate for their development.
Posterboy Skills Academy offers financial assistance equal to the amount of the registration fee to families who meet the criteria and are receiving state aid(documents will need to be verified). This covers the registration fee and part of the tournament cost, which is only about 1⁄4-1/2 of the ‘formal cost’ of our travel programs.
We also offer an 11% sibling discount for those families who have more than one child they would like to sign up.
Families who need further financial aid can discuss their situation with the travel director, who will consider granting additional financial aid on a case by case basis.

SO WHY DOES TRAVEL BASKETBALL COST SO MUCH?

The travel basketball season is long, lasting almost 4 months at a time. We are On a cost-per-time basis, which means Posterboy Skills Academy must pay for gym time.
The only other sport that has similar space needs is the other long-season, winter sport, hockey. And travel basketball is a bargain by comparison.

HOW SOON IN ADVANCE WILL YOU KNOW TOURNAMENT SCHEDULES?

As coaches who have families as well we realize that every family has schedules outside of basketball and like to plan their weekend in advance. However, tournament schedules in Club basketball are typically not set until the Thursday night before a tournament. Schedules are set by the tournament organizers and not by us. We send out schedules as soon as we get them to give your families as much notice as we can. Please know that some scheduled dates can/will change due to changes set by the tournament host which are out of our control.

CAN WE DROP OUT IF THIS IS NOT FOR US?

We ask that every player make a commitment and honor that commitment for the duration of that season. Dropping out of the program mid-season is disruptive to the program and the team process. After each season each player will be asked to recommit to the next upcoming season, at this time, this would be the opportunity where players who would like to pursue other interest he or she may have can do so.

WHAT IS AAU BASKETBALL? WHY DO I NEED AN AAU MEMBERSHIP?

AAU basketball is the largest governing body of club basketball in the country. While not all tournaments are AAU sanctioned events, we will be participating in several throughout the year. We require that all coaches and players purchase the extended AB membership which not only allows us to play in AAU events, but also gives everyone insurance in any of our events. The membership is valid until September 1st of the calendar year regardless of purchase date.

IS UNIFORM COST AND OTHER POSTERBOY SKILLS ACADEMY GEAR INCLUDED IN COST?

Uniforms and uniform packages are separate and not included in the Travel Team fee as most players are returning. We only require players to purchase a new uniform if they do not have a current Posterboy Skills Academy uniform.

ROOKIE/BEGINNER SKILLWERK ACADEMY CLASS

FAQ

WHY SHOULD I SIGN UP MY CHILD FOR YOUR SKILLWERK ACADEMY?

Posterboy Skills Academy SkillWerk Academy is unique because we pair kids with similar skill level. The SkillWerk Academy is broken down into skill and grade levels. Rookie is for beginner and young players who are not ready for the 10ft rim and use lower height rim. Beginner which is similar to Rookie but serves as a transition for beginner players who are ready to play on the  10ft rims. Advance is one of our most popular levels and for those elementary and older kids with in game experience(park and rec, or other forms of organized basketball) and want to improve their skills and be prepared to play on one of our travel teams.  Elite is for more experienced players or for those players who have graduated from the Rookie, Beginner, Advance levels.

HOW DO I KNOW WHICH SKILL LEVEL TO SIGN MY CHILD UP FOR?

Our Professional coaches will place your child in the proper group/class depending on your child’s skill level, For example, Usually when a player is first starting out playing the sport, he or she will start with the Rookie or beginner level and work Their way up. Now If the player has already been playing for a while, then it more likely your child will be added to the advance level class.

WHAT DOES MY CHILD NEED TO BRING FOR TRAINING?

Players are required to bring their own basketball, Please be sure to have the right size ball for your child. It is also recommended to bring your own water/refreshments and wear comfortable athletic apparel (athletic shorts, rubber-soled closed toed shoes and short sleeves – no jeans or sandals).

WHEN DOES MY CHILD'S MEMBERSHIP START, AND WILL I HAVE TO SIGN HIM OR HER UP MONTHLY?

Your child’s recurring Skillwerk Academy membership starts at the beginning of every month and begins at the beginning of every month thereafter. You do not need to re-register after your initial registration. Your membership is on an auto-debit system that recurs every month and enrolls you into your class for the month.

IF MY CHILD MISSES ONE OF HIS OR HER CLASSES CAN WE MAKE THEM UP OTHER DAYS?

Unfortunately due to covid restrictions and the limited number of spots available per class you will not be able to make up missed days. Also your child will only be able to attend the class and hours that are paid for.

HOW DO I CANCEL OR CHANGE MY MEMBERSHIP?

If you need to make changes or stop your membership, please be sure to email us your cancellation request at least 72 hours/3 days before your next billing date with your child’s name, grade, and academy class they are registered in.
